Silverline Equities was founded on the premise that there is a generational transition of office demand moving to dynamic, mixed-use neighborhoods. This shift, combined with the current deep discounts in office asset pricing, presents an opportunity for Silverline Equities to buy select office buildings well below replacement cost with the ability to increase asset value through leasing, operational excellence, targeted capital investment, and potential redevelopment.

Advisory

We provide owners of existing real estate portfolios, including family offices, banks and other institutions, an array of private-label advisory services, including asset restructuring, developing strategic asset plans, and executing on capital markets transactions.

Anthony Chang

Anthony has over two decades of expertise with a strong emphasis on repositioning mixed-use spaces, coupled with twelve years as a market expert in the DC and Northern Virginia markets. Commencing his career at Rockefeller Center with Tishman Speyer, he later joined Hines, overseeing leasing, capex, and operations of trophy office buildings, honing his mixed-use repositioning skills. He was recruited to Broadway Partners involved him in nearly $2 billion in dispositions. Relocating to Virginia in 2012, Anthony, as a leasing broker at Cassidy Turley, added nearly 3 million square feet of agency leasing, in addition to select tenant assignments like Cvent's headquarters. Returning to the principal side with Washington REIT, he transformed a 3 million square feet portfolio across the metro DC area, handling over $2.5 billion in mixed-use asset transactions. As the Managing Director for Stream's Northern Virginia Office, he built a new leasing and marketing team to market leadership with 7 million square feet of assignments. Anthony actively contributes to the real estate landscape, serving on the boards of NAIOP Northern Virginia, the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Committee, and ULI Washington, where he's the current chairman. His educational background includes an MSc in Real Estate from NYU and a Bachelor's Degree in Government and Economics from Cornell University.

Barry Bass

Barry has over three decades of real estate finance experience, having served as the CFO of several public and private real estate companies., including First Potomac Realty Trust (NYSE:FPO), which he helped to take public in 2003, and Carr Properties, a major office building owner and developer in the Washington, DC area, owned by JP Morgan’s Special Situation Property Fund and Alony Hetz, a real estate holding company traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Barry was also the CFO of Holistic Industries, one of the largest multi-state cannabis operators in the country and the Chief Business Officer at Willco, a private developer/family office based in Potomac, Maryland. Earlier in his career, Barry was a Principal in Legg Mason’s investment banking group, Executive Vice President at The Artery Group, a Washington-area developer, and Vice President at Winthrop Financial Associates in Boston. Barry graduated with a B.A. in Government from Dartmouth College and completed coursework in Babson College’s part-time MBA program.

A new wave of midcareer commercial real estate entrepreneurs is capitalizing on what some call “once-in-a-generation” opportunities to invest in distressed or otherwise discounted properties in today’s market—especially in the office sector.

Nationwide, there’s been an uptick in new investment firms started by development and investment professionals with 10–25 years of industry experience—some of whom left major firms to do so. These firms aim to buy cheap offices and reposition them through leasing, capital improvements, or conversions to apartments.

Anthony Chang, ULI’s Washington chair and the founder of Silverline Equities in Washington, D.C., is among these professionals. So is Hai Chien Wang, a value-add investor who cofounded the D.C.–based Taicoon Property Partners just over a year ago. Read more
